Hanoi, the capital

Seat of the Government

As the place where the Government of the country is seated, Hanoi carries a special political mission. All central Government agencies of Vietnam, embassies of other countries, and representatives of leading service industry corporations are located here. On Hanoi’s streets, you often see scenes of convoys carrying high-ranking officials from Noi Bai International Airport to the centre of the capital, or national ceremonies taking place in front of Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum: solemn and formal.

Where old mixes with new

Alongside that, you can also easily witness the charming hustle and bustle of daily life, gentle and relaxed. The Old Quarter is cramped yet intimate and friendly. Goods and services are diverse, ensuring that all your needs to understand the local life are met. Hoan Kiem Lake and West Lake, they give Hanoi a poetic and tranquil touch. At the same time, the modern urban areas along the Red River bring a youthful and vibrant pulse to the city. In here, the old and new intertwine, blending together to the point where sometimes you can no longer distinguish them from each other. For instance, you can enter a restaurant built on a hundred-year-old architectural house and ask for a very Western cappuccino. Yet, there’s no need to strictly separate the old from the new. Because Hanoi remains the same: serious yet gentle, thoughtful and warmly welcoming.

Some other features of Hanoi

Hanoi is also the gateway for you to explore the Northern mountainous regions of Vietnam, where breathtaking landscapes await. The Northeast and Northwest both offer unique colors for you to discover. Or head South from Hanoi to renowned global landmarks like Ha Long Bay or Trang An Bai Dinh: all of which are conveniently accessible from Hanoi.

The capital also plays a key economic role in the Northern Key Economic Region and the whole country. After 15 years of administrative expansion, Hanoi, while only accounting for 21.2% and 1% respectively in area and 41.7% and 8.1% in population, has contributed 47.46% and 12.59% to GRDP (as of 2023), fulfilling its role as the cultural, economic, and social centre of Vietnam.

For Marijn, co – Founder of VNHL, the capital has a special position in his heart. More than 3 years of working and living in this city has brought him many sweet memories. Colleagues, friends, and neighbors are still there, still making him feel very welcome each time come back.

Hanoi is always like that: bustling with worries, yet filled with love like the expansive and generous Red River. Love the Red River, love Hanoi, and then you will love all of Vietnam.
