Da Nang, a place called home

We are starting the first article of the VNHL blog section to write about the place we are living in, Da Nang. And in the first line, I would like to clarify that this is entirely my personal subjective perception. Why is that? Because I understand that love is subjective and very personal. I am writing about the land that embraces us, sharing our feelings, and in my own perception, we are loved by Da Nang.

Da Nang’s nature

The first word that comes to my mind when describing Da Nang is “beautiful”. And according to the many articles that I read when writing this post, I am not the only one. Da Nang owns a long curly river across the city. Fresh water has always been a source of life and development. The shapes of city life have slowly formed and grown along this calm and lovely river. As time passes by, along with economic restructuring, Da Nang makes use of its diversified natural potential to make tourism a major economic strength.

It is not difficult to see why the Da Nang Government has been focusing on tourism. Here lies more than 70km length of the seashore, among which is more than 30km beach length suitable for tourism. Some of these beaches were in the list of best beaches in the world. Furthermore, Da Nang has a peninsula filled with wildlife, including some world-preserved species. Its surroundings have been gifted by nature with poetic waterfalls, wild tropical forests. Indeed, Da Nang is a young flower waiting for its best blooming time to come.

Besides its natural beauty, Da Nang is also a worth-living city. It almost always makes the top 3 in the list of most livable cities in Viet Nam, and in 2018 Da Nang was even in the top 10 of most worth-living cities in the world (Live and Invest oversea, travel magazine). Da Nang strives to combine its economic development targets with using and protecting its landscapes and its environment. The city takes advantage of its ideal natural terrain to develop a deep-water seaport serving large-capacity ships, aiming to become the region’s leading logistic city. The Government also prioritizes the development of smokeless industries, typically creating a preferential tax corridor for information technology projects.

Da Nang’s people

Nature has endowed this land with many advantages. And the people here are gradually showing their respect for nature. They are both relying on each other to develop together. Gentle, honest and hospitable are the words that you can often hear from tourists when describing the people here. Just because Da Nang suffers several big storms every year, which is a common occurrence for coastal countries, does not mean that the people here love their homeland any less. The storms end, the roads are littered with fallen trees, cleaning up is difficult, work is affected, … but those difficulties only forge the people of Da Nang to have more patience, perseverance and the spirit of getting up after difficulties. Respectful is the word I want to use to talk about the people of Da Nang. And grateful, is what I want to express to this land.

Our Da Nang

For more than 5 years, the ocean has embraced me. It has washed away all the fatigue of modern living. The gentle and simple smiles of the familiar strangers around me have helped fill the void in my heart created by living far from my family and homeland in Ho Chi Minh City. Gentle and peaceful, Da Nang has given me another place to call “home”. By now, I can confidently say: I also love Da Nang.

If you, alone or with your loved ones, are planning to go to a new place, let me suggest you to try to experience the love of Da Nang. And who knows, like myself, you will pay back in love with this land.
